Spring Leaf Collection Begins March 22

The City of Maryville City Public Works Department will perform a spring leaf clean-up throughout the City beginning Monday, March 22nd.  This is a one time pick up and the City's last loose leaf pick-up until the fall. Residents are asked to separate leaves from other waste (brush or bulk) and place them in piles in the front, but not in a ditch where leaves could clog the storm drains.  To ensure that you don't miss the one time collection, leaves should be raked out to the curb and ready for collection by March 21st.  City trucks do not back track into neighborhoods.

Bagged leaves will not be accepted during the spring leaf clean up but can be placed outside during the regular monthly brush collection. For further details, call the Public Works Department at 273-3302.

City Switches to Wireless Water Meter Reading Device

The Water Quality Control Department has begun replacing old water meters  with a new meter that will allow for wireless readings for their customers via the meter reader's truck. The Mobile Collection System fits in the vehicle and can be transferred to another City vehicle, if needed.

To get the mobile system up and running the Water Quality Control Department will be replacing approximately 12,000 residential meters with the new meter pictured below. The customer's water will be turned off for a few minutes to remove the old meter and install the new meter. Many people who are working will not notice any difference in their water. Those who are home will experience just a few minutes without water.

The week of March 8, Water Quality Control crews will be working near Indiana Avenue, High Street, Ellis Avenue, Goddard Street and Mynders Road, weather permitting.  Areas will be announced weekly.

WHY?  The Census determines the distribution of more than $300 billion annually of government funding for critical community services. It generates jobs across the country and it impacts the voice of our communities in Congress. Many times, redistricting occurs on the state and local level and can also determine how many seats Tennessee will have in the House of Representatives. In addition, it can be used by governments as a planning and development tool.

IT'S QUICK, EASY AND CONFIDENTIAL. With only 10 quesions, this Census is the shortest in history and takes only 10 minutes to complete. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individual's questionnaire response with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities.

WHEN?  The Census questionnaires will be mailed in March.
