Complaints.
If you wish to make a complaint about the actions of a Maryville Police Officer or about any aspect of the Maryville Police Department operations, please:
1. Come to the Maryville Police Department, 418 West Broadway Avenue and tell any employee that you want to make a complaint.
2. Call the Maryville Police Department at 273-3700 and tell the person answering the telephone that you want to make a complaint.
3. Write out your complaint and mail it to the Chief of Police, Maryville Police Department, 418 West Broadway Avenue, Maryville, Tennessee 37801.
A Maryville Police Department supervisor will assist you in filing out a complaint form. This form asks you to identify yourself and then to give specific details about your complaint.
If it is going to take a long period of time to investigate your complaint, you will be contacted advising you exactly when you may expect a reply on your complaint. When your complaint has been investigated, the Chief of Police will review the investigation and will contact you advising what has been found out about the matter. Download Complaint Report Form
Recruitment.
Applications are accepted annually in late spring/early summer. An application must be submitted for consideration. Mandatory test information will be included with the application. For specific recruitment dates, please refer to the Human ResourcesJob Openingstab at the top of our home page www.maryvillegov.com for specific recruitment dates.
Police officer duties include patrolling for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons and disturbances of law and order; responding to radio dispatches and answering calls and complaints; operating radar and other specialized equipment; assisting with criminal investigations; preparing detailed reports; operating telecommunications equipment; and performing related tasks as required. Applicant must satisfactorily complete a POST approved Police Academy within one year from the date of employment, meet and maintain minimum standards prescribed by the police department's General Orders and the POST Commission. Requires consent to thorough background investigation, as well as pre-employment physical, psychological and substance abuse screening and evaluation. Must possess a valid driver's license, be a United States citizen, and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum age 18. Minimum entry-level police salary is $31,116. Nepotism policy prohibits hiring relatives of city employees.
