Bicentennial Park Pedestrian Bridge Replacement

Picture
The Bicentennial Park Pedestrian Bridge Replacement project showcases the type of impactful, community-focused work stormwater and civil engineers deliver at the City of Maryville. The project included replacing two pedestrian bridges and abutments, realigning portions of the greenway trail, and restoring streambank areas along Pistol Creek. As part of the City’s ongoing greenway bridge modernization program, the project combined structural, environmental, and aesthetic design to create a durable community asset that enhances connectivity, improves resilience, and serves residents for generations to come.

Bicentennial Park Streambank Repair
The Bicentennial Park Streambank Repair project demonstrates how engineering solutions can improve both infrastructure resilience and environmental health. Engineers managed approximately 375 feet of streambank along Pistol Creek and Battle Creek using a combination of soil and vegetative bioengineering techniques, including streambank grading, coir fiber matting, stone reinforcement, and the planting of native trees and vegetation. The project reduced erosion, improved water quality by limiting sediment runoff, and protected the adjacent greenway, creating a more sustainable stream corridor that will benefit residents and the environment for years to come.

Eagleton Road Culvert Replacement
The Eagleton Road Culvert Replacement project highlights the essential infrastructure work that protects public safety and strengthens the city's stormwater system. Engineers oversaw the the replacement of a failed 66-by-48-inch metal culvert with 80 feet of twin 48-inch metal culverts, incorporating concrete end wall treatments, guardrail improvements, and site stabilization measures. The project also required a temporary stream diversion to maintain dry working conditions during construction. By restoring reliable stream conveyance and improving the durability of the crossing, the project enhanced roadway resilience and reduced the risk of future drainage failures.
