Free Compost!

Biosolids are a byproduct of the wastewater treatment process that are mixed with wood chips in a composting process resulting in a rich soil amendment product.

When production allows later this summer, the compost will be made available for personal use to individuals free of charge.

Compost will be available for pickup:

Wednesdays from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Maryville Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant
4541 Wheeler Road, Louisville, TN 37777
Text or call for availability information: (615) 693-9425

NOTICE: The compost from the City of Maryville’s Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant is sampled and tested in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s and Tennessee’s Department of Environment and Conservation regulatory requirements for land application. Our compost is only available for public use and land application when all required parameters are compliant.

The EPA is still in the process of conducting a risk assessment for PFOA and PFOS in biosolids. There are currently no regulatory determinations for numerical limitations or best management practices for these compounds and a nationally approved method for analyzing PFAS in biosolids is not yet finalized.

The City of Maryville will continue to abide by all regulatory requirements of our governing agencies in allowing the use of our compost product for public use and land application.
