City of Maryville Fireworks Code 

The City's ordinances regulating the sale and discharge of consumer fireworks follows state law. As of December 2018, it is legal for citizens to use consumer fireworks within the city limits. Display fireworks (large) and sales of fireworks are also now allowed with some conditions as outlined in the ordinances below. A permit is required for display fireworks and/or for the sale of fireworks.

Consumer fireworks can only be used within the city limits during the following times:

​Please remember:
​
  • Fireworks may only be used on private property unless permitted by the City otherwise.
  • Use of fireworks on all public streets, roads, public alleys, sidewalks, parks, public parking lots, and other public facilities within the City is prohibited.
  • Fireworks usage in the city limits is a privilege and it is important that users be respectful of neighbors during use.

City of Maryville Fireworks Ordinances
Read Ordinance 2019-21 - Amends Code 7-703, Fireworks Regulated. Discharge Dates Amended
Read Ordinance 2018-43 - Repeals Code 7-105, Fireworks Regulated, replaces with new chapter in title 7 permitting retail sale and discharge in the city under limited circumstances.
Read Ordinance 2019-02 - Amends the minimum age for purchase of fireworks to comply with state law.
Read Ordinance 2019-06 - Expands locations within the city where fireworks sales are allowed.
Read Ordinance 2019-27 - Temporary signage for retail sales of fireworks.

Fireworks Sales and Display Permits

  • City of Maryville Permits can be obtained through the City Recorder (or downloaded below).
  • ​There is a $250 non-refundable permit fee for each type of permit.
  • Fireworks Sales Permits can be obtained for the periods of either June 20 - July 5 or December 10 - January 2.
  • Display Permits are valid for a calendar year, but sales are only permitted during the periods of June 20 - July 5 and December 10 - January 2.
  • Sales will be permitted only on lots zoned to allow retail sales located on property adjoining U.S. 321, U.S. 411 or TN 33 in the city of Maryville. 
  • Permits require applicant to meet with both Maryville Police and the Maryville Fire Official before submitting to the City Recorder for approval. Please allow up to two weeks for processing.
  • Consumer fireworks use (small fireworks sold in fireworks stands for consumer use) do not require a use permit but the sale of consumer fireworks requires a permit.
  • Sales outlets must post signage with the allowed use dates and times according to the ordinance.
  • ​Igniting and firing or exploding fireworks must be done entirely on private property.
  • Use of fireworks on all public streets, roadways, alleys, sidewalks, parks, parking lots, and public property within the City of Maryville is prohibited.
