Utility Construction Worker

About This Opportunity:   
Great opportunity in the construction division of the City of Maryville Water and Sewer Department. This position involves work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water and sewer lines.  Construction background with experience in underground utilities and / or heavy equipment operations preferred.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Installs, maintains, inspects and repairs water and sewer lines, manholes, fire hydrants, meters, meter boxes, valves, water and sewer taps, etc.
  • Checks for sewer system defects using smoke testing, wet weather flow observations, and sewer flow monitors.
  • Assists in the operation of the Jet-Rodder and CCTV trucks.
  • Loads and transports materials and equipment to job site.
  • Performs landscaping and surface restoration at job site.
  • Operates trucks, tractors, back‑hoe, tapping machines and other equipment in connection with the above tasks.
  • Processes and completes paperwork regarding manhole reports, overflow and sewer stops, water and sewer request forms, material sheet, etc.
  • Performs emergency repairs of broken water lines, sewer stops and overflows.
  • Fills out daily worksheets regarding time, materials used, amount and type of pipe installed.
  • Responds to after hour emergencies.
  • Attends various training classes as needed.

Utility Construction Worker Job Description

Principal Planner

About This Opportunity:
Performs difficult professional and technical work managing the City’s planning program, assembling and analyzing social, economic and other data for City planning activities, preparing short- and long-range planning documents, supervising and assisting the City’s land use planning staff in the processing of land use and zoning applications and requests, preparing documentation for relevant boards and commissions, maintaining case files and related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under the limited direction of the Deputy Development Services Director. Supervision is exercised over the Land Development Administrators. 

Essential Functions:
  • Manages the City’s planning program and supervises assigned planning staff. 
  • Assists with the recruitment and selection of planning personnel; assigns, directs, trains and inspects the work of departmental staff; evaluates staff performance. 
  • Prepares planning documents and regulations which reflect modern trends and practices in urban planning and presents such documents and regulations to group or public audiences. 
  • Provides information and advice to architects, engineers, property owners, developers, realtors and the general public regarding the City’s planning program. 
  • Serves as staff to the City’s Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Historic Zoning Commission and Downtown Design Review Board, providing professional advice, research, guidance and assistance on various Department related issues, projects and applications submitted for review.

About This Opportunity:
Performs protective service work enforcing laws, investigating criminal activity, ensuring safety of public, maintaining records and files, testifying in court, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned.

​About This Opportunity:

You will have the opportunity to put your accounting skills to work by performing intermediate professional and technical tasks, including processing and balancing work orders, creating and posting journal entries to the general ledger, managing fixed assets, performing cost allocations, preparing and reviewing financial records and files, reconciling accounts, balancing bank statements, and related work as apparent or assigned. This position reports to the Deputy Director of Financial Services and includes other related duties as assigned. 

Essential Functions: 
▪ Reviews General Ledger ensuring accurate postings; research issues arising from General Ledger review. 
▪ Reconciles bank statements and analyzes cash flow. 
▪ Prepares miscellaneous invoices and prepares monthly financial reports. 
▪ Posts and reviews transactions to work orders, balances work orders monthly. 
▪ Maintains and balances construction work in progress, inventory control and fixed assets for the Proprietary & General Funds. 
▪ Coordinates utilities annual fiscal inventory. 
▪ Maintains fixed assets for General Funds. 
▪ Reviews invoices for proper coding prior to payment; reviews postings to General Ledger; posts journal entries to General Ledger. 
▪ Extracts information from financial software to prepare reports for other departments and state agencies.

Accountant Job Description

Grounds Maintenance Worker

About This Opportunity: 
Grounds Maintenance Workers maintain City of Maryville properties along roads and greenways creating a safe and pleasant environment for citizens. 
Essential Functions: 
  • Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance of the City property, highways, and right-of-ways including mowing, weed removal, trimming, spraying herbicides and insecticides, clearing sight distance problems, etc. 
  • Operates various vehicles and equipment including dump truck with leaf loader, commercial mowers, tractors, bush hogs, backhoe, bobcat, bucket truck, boom tractor, garbage truck, snow plow, etc. 
  • Cuts and trims trees throughout parks and roadways. 
  • Maintains parks by picking up debris, foreign objects removal, etc.; fertilizes and seeds parks as needed. 
  • Performs equipment maintenance on mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc. 
  • Handles maintenance work on water fountains, water lines, irrigation, toilets and various buildings throughout the City. 
  • Pulls weeds from flower beds; mulches flower beds. 
  • Clears walkways and trails of leaves, debris, etc.; performs ice and snow removal from sidewalks. 
  • Sets up, works, tears down and cleans up during City sponsored special events including trash removal, trail closures, temporary fence construction, temporary floor and lighting, crowd control, road closures, etc. 
  • Sets up work zones, construction zones, and safety zones, on highways, right-of-ways, parks, alley ways, and City streets including flagging traffic and lane closures. 
  • Serves as temporary crew leader during leaf collection season; oversees temporary workers. 
  • General knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools. 
  • General knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventative maintenance of equipment used in landscaping grounds maintenance. 
  • Thorough knowledge in the use of equipment to which assigned. 
  • Ability to perform labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. 
  • Ability to set up a safe work zone using signs, cones and flaggers.
