State law (Tennessee Business Tax Act) requires that most businesses selling goods and or services inside the city of Maryville with annual gross receipts of more than $3000 must have both a city and a county business license. Questions about county business licenses can be addressed by calling the Blount County Clerk’s Office at 865-273-5800.

- Minimal Activity Business License – If gross annual sales are more than $3000 but less than $100,000, a Minimal Activity License is required before conducting business. The Minimal Activity Business License must be renewed annually through the city of Maryville. Renewal requirements are a new license application and a $15 renewal payment.
- Standard Business License - If gross annual sales are more than $100,000, a Standard Business License is required before conducting business. Each business location requires a business license. The license expires 30 days after your return is due, but it will automatically be renewed after the annual return is filed with the state.

After the business has been registered with the state: 2. Apply for a City of Maryville Business License Application. Download application - or pick up in person at the Maryville Municipal Building. Mail or deliver the application along with the $15.00 application fee. 2.b. Is your business to be operated from a home? A city of Maryville home occupation application is also required. 2.c. Is your business license for a Special Event? (e.g. Farmers Markets, craft shows, auto shows, city-approved special events). A City of Maryville Special Event Permit Application is required. This type of permit also requires a business tax report form due monthly for continuing business or within seventy-two hours of close of temporary event. *Other permits may be required for special events 3.
