Downtown Maryville Branding Project
Downtown Maryville has seen an exciting period of renovation, development, and growth in the past few years and now with help from the city of Maryville, a new brand is in the works.
Downtown is where the history of Maryville begins,” said Toi B. Brown, GM of Broadway Social. “As the heart of the community, it is vital that we invest in its continued growth and revitalization.” That is what City leaders plan to achieve with this new initiative.
City Manager Greg McClain began discussing the effort with the Maryville Downtown Association (MDA) several years ago as ideas for improving downtown were streaming in. McClain said, “The project we are embarking on will help identify the area’s offerings and help us ensure marketing of the community as well as any future additions to the area are consistent with and meaningful to the brand.”
A request for proposals was issued June 21 for branding services. The detailed proposal outlines expectations and goals of the work – including identification of what makes Maryville distinct and appealing in a regionally competitive environment for investors, businesses, retailers, visitors, and residents. This work will lead into a flexible and authentic brand identity which will be used to meet the expectations mentioned.
The branding team will review the proposals after the July 13 deadline for proposals. Once reviewed according to standardized criteria, the most qualified company will be selected.
“There is a lot to do downtown now compared to a decade ago. We look forward to assisting the MDA with a consistent brand message that can be used to bring people from out of town to shop, dine, engage services, and learn more about opening businesses and developing in the downtown area,” said McClain. “Many communities have gone through the branding process and have seen tremendous results and we know this will help position downtown to attract even more economic growth and vitality and pay in dividends.”
