The Maryville Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment August 11-14, 2019 as part of a program to achieve reaccreditation by verifying it meets professional standards set forth by CALEA. The assessment team reviewing the Maryville Police Department consists of Deputy Chief Terry Clanton of the Kannapolis Police Department, North Carolina and Lieutenant Jeffrey McDaniel of the Evendale Police Department, Ohio.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, members of the community and agency employees are invited to offer comments at a public information session Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 5:00 PM. The session will be conducted at the City of Maryville’s municipal building located at 400 West Broadway Avenue inside the City Council Chamber.

The public and agency employees are also invited to offer comments to the Assessment Team by calling (865) 273-3741 on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s Standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Maryville Police Department. The agency contact is Captain Sharon Moore at (865) 273-3808.

Harper Avenue Closed due to Water Main Break

Harper Avenue has been reopened - July 26 - 3:30 p.m.

A section of Harper Avenue is closed due to a water main break. The road will be closed from Cusick to College Street until it can be repaired. More information will be posted as available.

Happy Birthday Maryville!

The City of Maryville was established on July 11, 1795, by an act of the General Assembly of the Territory South of the Ohio River. Seven commissioners were appointed and were to obtain fifty acres of land. These fifty acres were to be divided into lots and sold, with the proceeds to be used for construction of a courthouse and jail. One reason for locating the town in this particular area was the abundance of springs for a water supply. Located in Blount County, Maryville was named in honor of Mary Grainger Blount, wife of Governor William Blount. The county was named in honor of Governor Blount. Almost a year later, on June 1, 1796, the State of Tennessee became the 16th state in the Union.

Section of Columbus Street Closed - Week of July 9 - 12

City of Maryville Water & Sewer will have Columbus Street from Morningside Avenue to Hanna Avenue during work hours the week of July 9 - 12. They will be working on the sewer main.
