The City of Maryville Fire Department (MFD) has announced they will begin annual fire hydrant inspections. Firefighters and Water Department representatives will service approximately 180 hydrants in the Maryville College area beginning March 27, 2023. The inspection of the hydrants should be complete by April 10, 2023.
Periodically, MFD services and inspects the hydrant system throughout the city. Crews will be testing flow, operability, and reliability. They will also be lubricating caps and fittings. The inspections ensure that the system is in good working order should it be needed in case of an emergency.
Hydrant flushing can occasionally make residents’ water appear rusty or brown for a short time. If this happens, running the cold water tap for a few minutes will help it clear. The water is safe to use and consume, however it is best to avoid washing clothes until the water clears.
