Filling Pools
The City does not fill pools as a service. Residents should use their water hoses or contact a pool service provider.
Water and Sewer Charges
Normal water usage rates apply for filling pools (no quantity discounts are available.)
Sewer charges are capped at 15,000 gallons.
For sewer rates, residential customers would see no more than the maximum charge of $77.37 inside city limits; $115.83 outside city limits. (rates as of January 1, 2019)
Building Codes
For more information, contact our codes department (865) 273-3500.
Residential installation of in-ground or above-ground pools requires the following:
- swimming pool permit
- electrical permit
- grading permit - some above-ground pools may not need a grading permit if the ground is already level.
Pools must meet setback requirements (according to code) depending on where the pool is located on the property.
All pools require a barrier fence per code
Draining Swimming Pool Water
Chlorinated water should not be dumped into storm drains. Drain the water into the yard first. This allows time for the chlorine to evaporate. Please be a good neighbor and avoid draining pool water directly into neighbors' yards.
Discarding Swimming Pool Chemicals
Pool chemicals can be safely discarded at the Blount County Recycling Convenience Center.
