TWRA Continues Stocking Program Summer 2021

4/17/2021

Comments

On April 15, TWRA stocked Maryville's greenbelt lake with several hundred channel catfish in order to provide the community with an opportunity to continue the popular sport of fishing for the next few months.

For the months of April, May, and June, the lake will be stocked with channel catfish. The fish require a regular fishing license to catch. In order for more people to be able to enjoy this sport throughout the summer, anglers should only take what they need for dinner.

City Manager Greg McClain said, "We are thrilled to be able to partner with TWRA for a second fish species stocking program. We know many people in our community enjoy the sport -  and that our families appreciate the opportunity to spend time together in the natural environment."

Over the past two years, TWRA has partnered with the city of Maryville with assistance from Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited to bring trout fishing to Maryville's greenway. The program has provided an opportunity for our community to fish for trout in a convenient and safe location. Trout is stocked in the winter months when the temperatures are low enough for the species.

Sherwood Drive Closed to Through Traffic - April 6, 2021

4/6/2021

Comments

4/9/21 Update:
Sherwood Drive has been reopened.

Engineering and Public Works have closed Sherwood Drive to through traffic due to a sinkhole that has opened in the road. Barricades have been placed in the area of 524 Sherwood Drive near Goldleaf Street. Traffic can enter on either side of Sherwood but will be stopped at the barricades.  This road damage is not related to the sinkhole on US 411 South. It is due to a storm drain failure from a different storm drain system.

More information will be posted as it is available.

US 411 SOUTH at FOOTHILLS MALL DRIVE TRAFFIC NOTICE

4/6/2021

Comments

4/17/21 3:45 p.m.
All lanes have been reopened at US 411 near Foothills Mall Drive.
4/16/21 3:40 p.m.
The asphalt temperature is going to require overnight to cool enough for traffic. Our latest information is that the lanes will be reopened around noon tomorrow (Saturday, April 17.) We will continue to provide updates as they are available to us.

Update 4/16/21
TDOT crews have been able to make significant progress and are now estimating the road will open by the end of the day. We are happy to report this news and that it now appears traffic will be returned to normal before the weekend.

Update 4/15/21
As TDOT crews continue road work repair, it is now apparent that the work will continue into next week. We do not have an exact estimate for the return of all lanes but will continue to post updates as they are made available to us.

Update 4/12/21
As work continues on the repair of the US 411 sinkhole, according to the TDOT project manager, the road will remain down to one lane in both directions for the remainder of the week.
Update 4/7/21 AM

Delays in the area are significant. Expect at least 20 minutes additional time to travel through the area. Be advised - Old Niles Ferry is also receiving a large amount of traffic.

There is currently only one lane open near the work site in each direction.
Update 4/6/21 - 5 p.m.

The traffic control plan is currently allowing for two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane on US 411 South. The Foothills Mall Drive/ Montgomery Lane intersection is operating normally in both directions. All directions are passable, but traffic is congested in the area and motorists are still advised to avoid the area if possible. Work to repair the pipe and the sinkhole is expected to continue possibly through Friday.

Previously:
A storm sewer pipe has failed under US 411 South near the Foothills Mall Drive intersection. The failure has created a sink hole on the eastbound side of the road near the Pure Magic Car Wash / Condry Lane. Traffic will be diverted in the area and lanes will be reduced to one eastbound and one westbound. Additional modifications at the intersection will be required and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible. More information will follow as it is available.

Blount GIS Launches “My Government Services”
GIS Data Provides Easier Access to Service Information

Blount County, Tennessee – Maryville, Alcoa and Blount County residents have a new way to get information about services.

Blount County GIS has launched the first phase of its “My Government Services” application which will provide residents and businesses a variety of information about their local government services.

Because many service providers cross city and county borders, it can be confusing to residents to know where to go to find certain information. This effort is designed to make services easier to find for any address in the county and cities of Maryville and Alcoa.

Residents can search their street address to find information such as trash pickup days, nearest recycling centers, fire stations and schools information – and more information will be added in the future.
The website is easy to use and can be found through the websites of Blount County and the cities of Maryville and Alcoa.

Picture
  1. Visit your government’s website.
  2. Click the link in the picture shown above.
  3. Enter the street name in the search bar.
  4. Look for the list of services and local information on the right.
  5. Click on the service to find additional information.
Mobile phone users will find a similar interface but may need to scroll down to find the image.

“Two key goals in the development of this application are to enable citizens to find information about government services at their convenience, and to ensure the constantly changing information is accurate,” GIS Manager Ray Boswell explained. “Using our current GIS platform allowed us to develop this web application so that citizens can obtain information about services 24/7/365 through data that is maintained in our county-wide GIS database.”

Boswell explained, “Due to the amount of data involved, we will be tweaking the application for a short period of time and will continue to work to make it an even more useful tool.”

The first phase of the project includes solid waste information, fire protection and several other resources. Eventually, additional resources will be added – making this site a one-stop-shop for service-related information.

Maryville residents can call 865-273-3406 for more information.
