Scammers Targeting City of Maryville Utility Customers

Two Maryville residents have alerted the City about scammers offering to lower their utility bills and taking payment over the phone. These scammers have asked for personal information and debit/credit card information while pretending to discount the customer’s utility bill by a large percentage.
 
Customers who have received a call like this or who have questions about their account are asked to contact customer service at 865-273-3456.

​The City of Maryville Water and Sewer Department will have a section of Best Street closed from Oleary Lane to Karrow Street on Wednesday, October 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This closure will include the entrance to the recycling center on Best Street, and Sandy Springs Park will be accessible from the Karrow St. entrance only. Crews will be working on a sewer crossing during the closure.

Essential Functions of a Utility Plant Mechanic:
  • Performs repairs on pump motors and related equipment used for water or wastewater treatment lift stations, wells, storage tanks, etc.
  • Uses hand, bench and machine tools in the repair and maintenance of pumps, valves and other plant machinery.
  • Checks and performs maintenance and repairs on pump stations.
  • Adjusts, replaces and repairs bearings, shafts, sleeves and other parts.
  • Makes periodic inspections of equipment to ensure that equipment is functioning properly.
  • Monitors operation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System; repairs and/or replaces electrical services and related components.
  • Performs various carpentry tasks in connection with maintenance tasks.
  • Performs manual cleaning and preventive maintenance duties as assigned; performs routine building and grounds maintenance.
  • Lubricates and changes oil in equipment and motors.
  • Designs and fabricates parts for various types of equipment.
  • Performs various welding tasks in connection with repair activities.
  • Ability to serve after-hours standby.

Lane Closure on Church Ave. Starts Today, October 10, 2022

​Atmos Energy will begin a gas line replacement project downtown along Church Avenue today, October 10, 2022. The work will require the closure of the northeast-bound lane from Cates to Norwood. 

The first phase of the work will start at Cates Street and work towards Cusick Street with plans to finish this section by Thanksgiving. The next phase will continue along Church Avenue from Cusick to Norwood. This project is expected to be completed in January 2023.

Motorists should consider an alternate route. If an alternate route is not available, please slow down and use extra caution.

Planned Road Closure - Best Street - October 11

​City of Maryville Public Works will close Best Street between the entrance to Sandy Springs Park and Montvale Station on Tuesday, October 11 from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. to install a new sewer connection across Best Street. A signed detour will be in effect through the Sandy Springs Park lot.

This work may take up to three days to complete depending on weather.
