Fireworks Ordinance in the City of Maryville 2022

6/29/2022

Comments

As the July 4 holiday approaches, the City is reminding residents of the ordinances related to using fireworks in the city limits. Fireworks can only be used during two periods each year. The first on July 3 and 4. The other on December 31 and January 1. For July 3 and 4, fireworks can only be used from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Residents who wish to discharge fireworks must ensure they are used during the approved times.

As a reminder, fireworks (igniting, firing, exploding, discharging) must be used entirely on private property. The use of fireworks on all public streets, roadways, public alleys, sidewalks, parks, public parking lots, and public property within the City of Maryville is prohibited.

While many residents are looking forward to using fireworks to celebrate the July 4 holiday, many other residents are uneasy about their return – including those suffering with PTSD and those who are concerned with the impact of the noise on their pets and wildlife. Following the city’s ordinances will help keep the negative impacts on neighbors to a minimum while giving the community an opportunity to enjoy celebrating together.

Anyone planning to use fireworks should visit the National Safety Council’s website for tips on safe handling and best practices. Visit their website at nsc.org.

Fireworks sales and displays are subject to city ordinances and permits. For more information on sales, visit maryvillegov.com/fireworks-permit or call 865-273-3900. For more information on use of consumer fireworks in the city, call 865-273-3401.

AT&T Fiber Installation Project Continues - June 2022

6/24/2022

Comments

AT&T continues its ongoing fiber optic cable installation through Maryville and will be working in two neighborhoods off Brown School Road over the next few months. Upon the completion of this part of the project, these locations will have access to a high speed internet connection.

To accomplish this project AT&T and sub-contractor Star Construction will have to bore underneath the roadway to lay the fiber. The boring process involves digging an entry pit along the side of the roadway so that the boring machine has access underneath the roadway as shown in the figure below.

AT&T and Star Construction are responsible to fix any damage caused during the construction of this project, restoring the property as closely as possible back to its previous condition. If residents have any questions or concerns, the contact number provided by AT&T is Star Construction (865) 281-1514 ext. 10221.

A map of the current project can be downloaded here.
A copy of the AT&T Fiber flyer can be downloaded here.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has issued a Public Appeal for Voluntary Load Reductions by customers in the Maryville and surrounding areas.

6/22/2022

Comments

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is requesting all customers to voluntarily curtail any non-essential electric loads effective today, June 22, from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. tonight.

Currently, our area is forecasting some of the hottest temperatures this season, which will lead to higher energy demands from the surrounding areas. As part of the TVA’s Emergency Load Curtailment Program (ELCP), TVA is implementing Steps 10 and 20 of their program which aims to proactively maintain a stable and reliable power grid during peak hours as this week’s temperatures approach record-setting highs. The demand during the peak hours of 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. can lead to higher electric bills for residents and businesses.

This implementation may incorporate steps in residences and businesses that include reducing lighting during the day, adjusting A/C thermostats when not home or in parts of the residence that is not routinely occupied, and unplugging devices or appliances not frequently used. Please be aware that these steps will likely be in effect for Thursday, June 23, and Friday, June 24, as well.
