Free Compost on Saturday, July 31, 2021

Picture
The City of Maryville Wastewater Treatment Plant is offering free compost to individuals for personal use on a first come, first served basis. The compost is an organic material made from wastewater solids, called biosolids. Biosolids are a byproduct of the wastewater treatment process. These waste materials are broken down by micro-organisms, excess water is drained and the solid material that remains is heat treated to remove pathogens. The biosolids are then mixed with wood chips in a composting process resulting in a rich soil amendment product.

Compost will be available for pickup on Saturday, July 31, 2021, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Maryville Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, 4541 Wheeler Road, Louisville, TN 37777.

City employees will load a scoop of compost into the back of your truck or onto your trailer or bring your own bag(s) to fill. Free compost is available for pick up on most Wednesdays this summer from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. as well. This is a special Saturday event for those who are unable to participate on Wednesdays.

For more information, visit our website: www.maryvillegov.com/biosolids-fertilizer-compost.html or call the Wastewater Plant Superintendent, Chris Hamrick at 615-693-9425.
