The City of Maryville Engineering and Public Works department has completed a streambank stabilization project along 2,200 linear feet of Pistol Creek in Pearson Springs Park. The project’s main goals were to protect the Greenway Trail and reduce bank erosion. Improving water quality and wildlife habitat while enhancing the beauty of the park were also objectives of the project. The Greenway Trail along the creek also received some much-needed attention. Improvements to the trail included leveling and resurfacing with new asphalt and replacement of some of the bridges that cross over the creek between Best Street and Montgomery Lane. Recently three large permanent signs explaining the streambank restoration project were installed along the trail. Visitors to the park are encouraged to stop for a moment to read about what was done, why it was needed, and what was accomplished. |
