Work to improve the park began in 2019 with the following projects already complete
- Reconstruct existing pavilion and renovate restrooms
- Renovate the concession stand
- Add fencing to the softball fields
- Upgrade softball field lighting
- Upgrade basketball court lighting
- Replace Greenway Trail bridges
The first phase of this summer’s work is scheduled to begin June 2 and run through July 7. During this time contractors and city crews will be renovating the basketball courts and repaving the Greenway Trail from Best Street to Montvale Road. This work will require sections of the trail to be closed for one to two days at a time through the month of June. Grinding and excavating the existing trail surfaces begins Thursday, June 2 followed by re-paving. Closures will be clearly marked with signage and will be roped off.
Phase 2 of the project is expected to begin July 10 with completion estimated by November 7, 2022, depending on weather. Phase 2 projects include:
- Widen and replace sidewalks
- Re-pave the parking lots and reconfigure parking stalls
- Replace wooden split rail fence with steel handrail
- Upgrade lighting in the park
- Drainage improvements near the Cedar Street tennis courts
- Install landscaping
Kevin Stoltenberg, City Engineer is excited to get the park renovations under way. “The improvements to Sandy Springs Park scheduled for this summer and fall will result in a top-notch facility for the City of Maryville,” Stoltenberg said. “Our goal from the beginning of the project was to maintain Sandy Springs Park as a safe, beautiful, and functional green space for our community to enjoy for many years, he added.”
