Currently, our area is forecasting some of the hottest temperatures this season, which will lead to higher energy demands from the surrounding areas. As part of the TVA’s Emergency Load Curtailment Program (ELCP), TVA is implementing Steps 10 and 20 of their program which aims to proactively maintain a stable and reliable power grid during peak hours as this week’s temperatures approach record-setting highs. The demand during the peak hours of 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. can lead to higher electric bills for residents and businesses.
This implementation may incorporate steps in residences and businesses that include reducing lighting during the day, adjusting A/C thermostats when not home or in parts of the residence that is not routinely occupied, and unplugging devices or appliances not frequently used. Please be aware that these steps will likely be in effect for Wednesday, June 15, and Thursday, June 16, as well.
