The work will occur along both sides of U.S. 321 from Hubbard Drive to Woodland Acres Road. While each section is under repair, the right lane will be closed. Crews will continue to work along this stretch until the repairs have been completed. Contractors have until June 30 to complete the work.
Repair of the curb and gutter is the responsibility of the City, and doing the work in advance is more efficient and less costly over time. The work is required to repair aging concrete around the catch basins along the highway which can cause rain to pool instead of draining into the catch basins. The pooled water further erodes the asphalt around the area and can create traffic hazards.
TDOT has contracted with APAC-Atlantic, Inc. to mill and resurface U.S. 321 from William Blount Drive on the west side to just beyond Helton Road on the east side. They will also resurface the entire length of William Blount Drive. This work is expected to begin early July.
City Engineer Kevin Stoltenberg said, “We are looking forward to the improvements to traffic safety and road quality when the local repairs are made and the state resurfacing project is complete.”
